As you can see from the above image, there are many ways to advertise for a program or event on campus, in your building, or on your floor. Advertising is key in getting a good turnout to any program. Eye catching designs for flyers and posters help to make the residents interested. Once you have your event planned and your advertisements made though, how do you know what the best timeline is for advertising.
I have found that the more methods of advertising you use, the better the turnout and also the bigger the program. This means that if you are planning a bigger event, you need more time to prepare and advertise appropriately to get the turnout you want. Using the methods above is typically the best sort of timeline (of course there will always be times when that simply isn't possible and still using those methods is useful, even if you aren't the appropriate time out from the event).
Use the above methods to get a good turnout from all sorts of residents, and the farther in advance you can publicize your event the more likely they will make plans to attend.
Other good ideas to help make sure you get a good turnout to our program:
- Create a google calendar with all of the programs for your floor/building/campus and make that available to students by sharing it. Many college students use google calendar for themselves and can easily sync the events to their personal calendars, ensuring that they don't plan something over it or forget about it.
- Post a month by month calendar which lists all of the planned events in a public place on the floor. This allows residents to see it and also helps to cut down on the amount of questions you will get about when a particular program is. Residents will utilize this more than you would anticipate.
